The Mount Vernon Christian Drama program provides extra-curricular experience in play production. Spring productions are usually full-length plays with rehearsal times that vary by production. Opportunities for involvement include the areas of acting, stage management, lighting, sound, props and costumes, as well as set construction and publicity. Play production is a team sport where all students are welcome!
The mission of the Mount Vernon Christian Music Department is to cultivate a relationship with God by applying the musical gifts and abilities He has given us. Opportunities for music involvement at MVC include K-3rd grade music, 4th Grade Recorders, Beginning Band, Middle School Band and Choir, and High School Band and Choir. There is also an auditioned group of high school choir students who get the opportunity to tour locally. Along with our two concerts every year, students have many opportunities to apply their musical gifts in chapel, church, musicals, and state contest; worship happens in each of these scenarios, because we are applying our musical gifts to bring glory and honor to God.
At Mount Vernon Christian we seek to restore the Arts to God’s Kingdom. God gave us the gift of the Arts and we believe in giving the Arts back to Him. We do this in several ways. First, we work on strengthening our creative thought processes. God is a creative God and He created us in His image; we are created to be creative. Second, we build our artistic skills. Like learning to read or learning to play basketball, art is a learned skill. While some students may show an aptitude for this specific subject, everyone can learn and grow in their artistic skills. Lastly, we consider our intent: what is Art, why does Art exist, and what is our purpose for creating it?
