Mount Vernon Christian Elementary School develops each child’s unique abilities through lessons that are distinctively Christian. Our classrooms bear witness to a wide variety of learning activities that equip our Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students to grow intellectually, physically, spiritually and socially. The sights and sounds of learning are abundant.
Elementary School students receive instruction in a variety of delivery models throughout the day. Subject areas taught from an overtly Christian worldview include reading, writing and grammar; spelling and handwriting; mathematics; science; social studies and history. Bible study and prayer are also a part of each school day. Students have computer technology opportunities within the classroom and in the lab. Art, music, physical education and library instruction round out a student’s weekly educational routine.
With class sizes averaging at 21, students are nurtured and challenged in their academic, social and spiritual development. Small classes allow for individual assessment and intervention by teachers as they instruct students with quality learning experiences.
Beside formative and summative classroom assessments, elementary students (3-5) take the ITBS each spring. The 2012 results indicated our students averaged a year and a half growth within their classrooms and 83% of the students are within or above grade level on these national assessments.
