Student Life

In school activities include the Spelling Bee (grades 3-5) and Geography Bee (grades 4-5), Read a Million Minutes (K-5), and Music programs.  Students in the fifth grade participate in a recycling program that assists the rest of the school.

Each grade takes field trips through the school year.  Students experience hands-on learning and connect classroom lessons with real world experiences.

Students may participate in a variety of Intramural offerings in grades 3-5: soccer, basketball, softball, and track & field.

Hurricane Sports camps, conducted by the high school coaches and players, are offered to elementary students in basketball, soccer and volleyball.

Elementary students also participate in two fall fundraisers—the school’s Walkathon and Butter Braid sales.  These events provide funds for class field trips, assemblies and events throughout the school year.

Students gather once per week for a time of worship, praise, teaching, and reflection during a chapel service. Chapel topics focus on a particular Bible verse and/or passage, and are presented by faculty and special speakers.

Students put their faith into action through a variety of service projects.  These short-term and on-going projects are accomplished at the classroom level and serve the local and broader community.

Parent volunteers are used in a variety of ways within the elementary school.  Individual and small group tutoring provide assistance to students with academic skills.  Students work side by side parent volunteers who contribute their talents and time to create additional opportunities for the elementary students.
