In-school activities include the Spelling Bee and Geography Bee, Science and/or History projects. Students perform twice a year in Band and Choir Concerts held on campus. Each year, band or choir students participate in the SJMEA musical festivals.
Each grade takes field trips through the school year. Students experience hands-on learning and connect classroom lessons with real world experiences. Monthly events are planned for the middle school students.
Grade 6 students attend a retreat to begin their Middle School experience. Grade 7 end-of-year field trip culminates year-long studies, events and activities. Grade 8 students attend an end-of-year retreat as an opportunity for students to strengthen relationships prior to entering High School, reflect on previous years at MVC, reinforce memories of the Middle School experiences, and acknowledge God’s provision, purpose and guidance during their Middle School years.
Students may participate in a variety of sports offerings while in the middle school. (see Sports section)
Hurricane Sports camps, conducted by the high school coaches and players, are offered to middle school students in basketball, soccer and volleyball.
Middle school students also participate in two fall fundraisers—the school’s Walkathon and Butter Braid sales. These events provide funds for class field trips and activities throughout the school year. Middle school band and choir students also sell wreath’s and poinsettia’s prior to the Christmas seasons.
Students gather once per week for a time of worship, praise, teaching, and reflection during a chapel service. The service includes a student-led worship team and a variety of speakers and topics to help students understand and live out their Christian faith.
Students put their faith into action through a variety of service projects. These short-term and on-going projects are accomplished at the classroom level and serve the local and broader community. They tend to build character, develop leadership and foster relationships.
Participation in Student Council plays a key role in organizing middle school pep rally’s and activities.
